WHAT ARE THE COLOURED BELTS ALL ABOUT?
To enable your instructors, and the Bob Jones Martial Arts instructors & higher ranks understand what level you are up to in your martial arts and self defence journey, a coloured belt system has been created. This coloured belt system also allows you to know a bit more about your fellow students & what their current knowledge & achievement level they are.

Your instructor will monitor your progress during each class, and may offer constructive critisism from time to time to ensure you have mastered your level. When they feel you are technically ready, they will invite you to a test or "grading"... When you have proven that you are proficient at and aware of the style, techniques and abilities at your level in your chosen style, you will be given the opportunity to move to the next belt level. This is usually about two months in advance if you are eligible to grade for your style, to the next belt level.
WHAT ARE GRADINGS?
A Grading is not based on number of classes or membership longevity or whether another student who joined the same time as you has been promoted above you, but based on your current understanding & execution of techniques and your chosen style. This is assessed by your instructor/s and constructive critisism is provided consistently in class, and also available on request.
You do not have to accept this invitation to gradings. We understand that life can get pretty hectic at times, so feel free to have a chat, and if you choose NOT to grade for any reason, just let your instructor know.
Some gradings (usually two per year - March & Sept) will be at our dojo (with just our students) known as "Local Gradings", and some other gradings are in a group with other BJMA clubs, at various locations on the Sunshine Coast depending on the number of students grading on that day (sometimes as many as 200) - usually June & November.
